RIVES GRANADE

Rives Granade is an artist who lives and works in Los Angeles. Granade is interested in the mutability of form as it relates to translation, interpretation, and the creation of meaning in visual language. His work is influenced heavily by the modernist canon of expressionist painting and sculpture.  Granade's protean forms are contradictions, occupying the spaces between abstraction and representation, all the while spinning illusive narratives for the viewer.  Images emerge, coalesce into legibility, and then fall apart sinking back into their own materiality only to resurface as something new. This type of art thrives in the occult power of the misunderstood.

Granade has exhibited his work in the U.S. and abroad. He received a BA in philosophy from Washington and Lee University and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute.  His work is held in many public collections including The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Marciano Art Foundation, The Beth Rudin DeWoody Collection, The Hara Museum of Art (Tokyo), Glendale College, and the Mobile Museum of Art (Alabama) among others.
